So yeah....finishing this took me a bit longer than expected.

When cleaning up my HDD's last week I found a directory with these maps in it and a modified King Arthur's World rom. Noticed I only had 6 maps left to do and add headers to the others, so I decided to finish them. Better late than never I guess ;)

Amazing job, it looks fantastic! Looking at it makes me want to play it again.

In fact, I think I have a copy of Castlevania the dracula x chronicles for the psp lying around here somewhere. Hope I can find it  ;D

Revned Said:

MagnetiC's Cut Man map had several single-pixel alignment mistakes that would probably have remained unnoticed if I hadn't remapped it.

Those damn stairs! But at least I was consistent ;)

The revised maps look great, especially now that they all have the same style.

Ripped and adjusted the header from one of Revned's maps (I hope you don't mind).

Don't worry about giving advice Rew, I like getting some feedback :)

That Mega Man map was my first try at mapping. At the time there weren't a lot of maps available for me to look at and compare with my own, so I just experimented a bit.

I agree with being consistent and unobtrusive, which I tried to be with my last SNES maps (using the game's font etc.). I also still have the original maps (with layers), so if anyone really wants to see them unlabeled I can always upload them ;)

Yeah, I found a program called snespal which can modify the color palettes of a rom. Took me some time to figure out how it works as I don't have a lot of experience with stuff like that. But eventually I was able to change the black background to any color I wanted, which helped me a lot :)

It's not a game I would recommend to anyone. For me it just brings up nice memories when I used to play this for hours on a saturday afternoon. The fact that the gameplay is very slow, you can't save in a level and king Arthur dies pretty quick (which means game over) can make it very frustrating. Especially later on when some of the levels have a lot of doors/teleporters.

I'm still trying to finish this someday, but a new job and some other real life stuff kept me from working on it much. Here are a few of the stages I've already finished.

Maps In Progress / RE: Sonic CD (Sega CD)

Using a buffer like the walls seems like the best option I think, it would probably look a bit weird otherwise.

You did a great job with that black-on-black problem, that's exactly what stopped me from finishing Pocky & Rocky. I ran into the same problem with King Arthur's World once I reached the underground levels and even VSnes couldn't help me this time. Luckily I was able to hack the rom with a snes palette editor and can now change the background color. I don't know a lot about hacking though and couldn't find any tools specific for the Sega CD, so lets hope DarkWolf is successful.

A strategy game that my cousin bought and said I should try. I liked it a lot even though the gameplay is pretty slow paced and the levels can become very frustrating later on. You can also play it with the mouse which gives you the option to scroll vertical instead of only horizontal.

The first 9 missions are pretty short and meant as a tutorial, but after that the levels quickly grow in size and difficulty. The tutorial levels are all completed (some are almost identical to each other) and I'm pretty much done with the first real mission.

Smash TV doesn't seem that far off with all the weird game shows they are making nowadays ;)

Finished the last stage:

Nice maps and it made me try yet another game I've never played before.

I was wondering though, how do you decide what palette to use? Do you use the 'default' one that comes with the emulator or just a custom one? Or does it depend on what game you're mapping (choose whatever palette looks nice for that game)?

Completed Stage2

Never played "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", seems it never got released in Europe. From the screenshots I found it looks like some kind of detective game? Interesting name for a game though :)

My next project is going to be Super Smash TV (SNES). The game only has three levels and is pretty easy to map so far.

Stage1 has already been completed:

Happy birthday Vgmaps! I found this site about 4 years ago when browsing through vgmuseum's forums. There was a topic about making gamemaps for vgmuseum and someone posted a link to vgmaps.com. I loved the idea of a site filled with gamemaps and so it immediately got bookmarked.

Thanks for all the great maps, here's to another 5 years :)

I had trouble mapping stage 4, the part with the flying ship. The wings of the ship have black in it, the same color the background shows when it's turned off. I couldn't find a way to combine the background with the ship without messing up the wings (the game never fully shows the wings).

Later on I was able to make it work thanks to vSnes, which has a very easy to use transparency setting (didn't notice it before). The rest was easy after that :)
