Hey there. Glad to hear that things are looking up for you, Terra. Sounds like you've had a rough time, but here's hoping that will remain in the past now!

The pandemic has been a pretty mixed bag for me. I was already living a pretty reclusive life and was trying to push myself to become more social, but when I shifted to working from home I had the perfect excuse to stop trying to improve myself :-\  It's been fine, really - I'm introverted and don't have much trouble finding fun things to do at home. But it's felt like my life has just kind of been on pause for the last year and a half.

I'm not quite as into retro gaming as I used to be, or at least my interests are gradually catching up to the times. I did replay several Mario and Zelda games earlier this year, though. But more recently I've played some games I've missed from the PS3 and newer. Right now I'm on Dark Souls, which I purchased years ago but never got around to. I also picked up Metroid Dread over the weekend and plan to start that soon.

It's hard to say, but I'm not sure if I'll do any more mapping in the future. About 5 years ago I went through all my past work and arranged them onto my site. I had made a list of potential future projects, but it was very short at the time and I haven't come up with more ideas since then. Pretty much all the games I'd be interested in are either done already or infeasible with my screenshot copy-paste techniques. And these days it seems like a lot of newer games have map editors or other ways to view the levels, so there isn't as much need for the old manual process. But we'll see, maybe something will pique my interest again at some point.

Maps Of The Month / Re: 2021/03: Lemmings (PC) - Revned

Thanks for the recognition!

I always felt bad about not doing more with these maps. I seem to recall putting them together in one sitting and never coming back to them. I could at least have included the real level names in the filenames if not as headers. Oh well, not really a big deal I suppose.

I noticed this as well last time I played through the game. I wonder if TerraEsperZ accidentally forgot to submit it, or if we both somehow overlooked it. If TerraEsperZ doesn't get to it, then I can do it at some point (not promising that it will be soon)

I did find a map elsewhere, if you're in a bind:

Map Gab / Re: Super NES Classic Edition - full map set

Kirby's Rainbow Resort has most of the rest of the Kirby's Dream Course set:
http://www.kirbysrainbowresort.net/games/dreamcourse/level/

There are a few missing from Course 6, but these are from the same set as already here on VGMaps.

I've attempted to map them myself with the full backgrounds, but I couldn't ever come up with anything that looked decent since it's a single non-parallax screen. And just mapping the few missing levels without backgrounds seemed somehow unfulfilling...

VGMaps Social Board / Re: VGMaps is now 15 years old!
« on: May 10, 2017, 06:20:01 pm »
Yeah, there are still a lot of games I'd like to see mapped, and I wasn't trying to claim that we're "done". But as time goes on, that list will get shorter and shorter, and I think the rate of new maps will slow accordingly. That is, unless more mappers develop my same obsession with redoing existing maps :P

We sure have come a long way in those 15 years! Both in quantity and quality, I'd say. Before this site, maps were mostly functional and less polished (character sprites everywhere, resized, etc.). Having a dedicated gallery for maps emphasized the maps-as-art aspect, and the forums helped develop the techniques and theory.

I'm not expecting exponential growth, especially when I look at my own work. I think we've started to reach a bit of a saturation point where all of the most popular games are either already mapped, or too technically difficult to map. Of course there are still outliers (like the Sonic series), but I'm personally a lot less motivated than I was when 90% of my favorite games weren't mapped yet. That said, I'm certainly not "retired" from mapping, and here's to the next 15 years!

Map Requests / Re: Mega Man Maps

I mean, it wasn't outright bad, but I disliked the art style and the added content didn't really feel worthwhile. Sure, I guess it's fun to try playing as different characters, but Mega Man himself gets to use all their weapons already...

I haven't played it in 11 years (!), so take my anti-recommendation with a grain of salt

I played Powered Up when it was new and didn't like it at all, but maybe that's just me. You might be interested in PPSSPP if you want to explore the PSP library

Make sure you have FileZilla configured to transfer in binary mode. FTP does some character encoding translation for text files unless you turn it off. It hasn't really been necessary for decades, but that's how these things go.

Map Requests / Re: Request Listings
« on: July 29, 2016, 06:42:47 pm »
If Tropicon wants to try to collect commissions, then so be it. But this thread (plus the other) went from zero to "has LTIan paid up yet?" in no time at all. Begging for money is as bad, or worse, than begging for maps.

For what it's worth, I think people pretty much ignore stickied threads before posting, as a rule. I'd lean towards closing the board, but I'd also be completely fine with just leaving things as they are. Just don't push things the other direction :)

I'm not sure how this thread escalated from discussing the merits of requests to pressuring LTIan to pay for maps, but I really wish it hadn't. Can't we just make maps for the fun of it?

Map Requests / Re: Request Listings

I'm happy to ignore them, but I think that having a dedicated Requests board gives people the wrong expectation. People see that there's a process for requesting maps, and then understandably expect that that means requests will be fulfilled. Adding any more formality, as you've suggested, seems like it will worsen the problem...

I don't know if I'd completely kill the board, but I'm not sure that things are any better now than they were before we had it. I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I just hate to give people false hope or frustration.

I've ranted about it before, but requests carry absolutely no weight for me, no matter who makes them or how they're organized.

I took a stab at this by creating a timelapse video of mapping Super Mario Bros 1-1. The video description includes additional details.

Hope this helps!

Mapping Tips/Guides / Re: Unstitching?

It should work for both, and I even made it on a Mac. What happens when you run it? It assumes the output directory exists, but otherwise it just worked fine for me.
