I have just submitted a map of "Magical Tetris Challenge". The GBC version has an overworld map. This is a Disney Capcom game, so I think it's fit to be a part of the  Disney Dizziness chapter.

Maps Of The Month / Re: 2016/12: Kirby's Adventure (NES) - Will Mallia
« on: December 01, 2016, 09:02:38 am »
My favourite of Kirby's powers was the Beam Ability, which I used most of the time to access secrets and protect Kirby from foes. The Rainbow Resort wasn't what I expected in a video game like this, because I felt the stages of the last level were straightforward, not creative enough and not difficult enough to be a penultimate level. The numerous bonus games certainly gave variety in Kirby's Adventure. Full-time work and putting the mapping project aside, certainly did get this game mapped longer than it could have been, but in the end, I'm happy for this game to be chosen for this Christmas month.

I've noticed something recently. The collection only covers 22 world released NES games plus 8 exclusively released for North America. There are eight more, released exclusively for Japan. This includes:

*Atlantis no Nazo
*Downtown Nekketsu Kōshinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundōkai
*Final Fantasy III
*NES Open Tournament Golf
*Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari
*Solomon's Key
*Tsuppari Ōzumō
*Yie Ar Kung-Fu

Do these count?

The whole of Kirby's Adventure maps is at long last completed. If any secrets have been missed, I'm all ears.

There is a Japanese game released on DOS and PC-98 called "Rusty". It's not a Castlevania game, but it has a close likeness to one.

Well I wouldn't call the issues completely technical, but I moved to Windows 7 a while ago. I am having trouble with trying to retain the true colours of the screenshots I take. Whenever colours from a 256 colour bmp are copied and pasted, they change. The only way to retain the colours is for the file to be saved as a 24 bit bmp. This process is very tedious. It would be better if I had an NES emulator that saved screenshots as PNGs. If you have an idea of how I can get around this problem, let me know.

I have finished doing "Punch out!!". I'll have a go at Pac-Man next.

EDIT: And now Pac-Man is done.

The first Warcraft game I was brought up with was Reign of Chaos. My favourite scenarios in most strategy games are the Adventure Scenarios which consist of a limited number of units and no structures, resources or peasants/peons to replenish your army. They are quite challenging but worth winning. My ideal strategy to keeping the enemy at bay was have a line of five footmen/grunts at the front of a bridge or small gap with five archers/spearmen right behind them (with three to five catapults behind them if available). It's a pity that Warcraft Adventures was never released commercially, it seemed like one of the best adventure games for it's time next to the Curse of Monkey Island. I'm quite excited to see the upcoming movie which judging by the trailer looks like the first three games together in one plot. It was a pleasure mapping all 24 scenarios of the first game and serves as a memorable reminder of Warcraft's beginnings.

You could try the site "Legends World", which specialises in both action and adventure.

You can continue mapping Final Fantasy III if you really want to. I only did these few maps as samples.

Rumor has it that the name Tanzra is an anagram and substitution of the name Satan. Simply rearrange the name Satan to Tansa then substitute the 'S' for a 'Z' and add an 'R'. It would be nice to have the Japanese stage maps as well. They are noticeably different in layout, and have slightly differently designed enemies. Good one Rick!

If limitations become too much, perhaps you should divide the Super NES section into two indexes; "Super Famicom" (containing Japanese only releases) and "SNES" (containing US and EU releases). You can also divide the PC index into a "Windows" index and a "DOS" index.

I personally would have chosen the Mount Rushmore styled monument in "Avengers' Park" as the Map of the Month screenshot. Iron Man is my favourite of the four, but only Captain America and Hawkeye are playable. I Mapping the game would have been faster, if I didn't have to backtrack with both characters through the levels. By the near end of the game, the Rocket Ship made it possible to skip levels. The only map that could have been finished neatly if I had some way to fly or super jump is the Houston level. What is intriguing is that it's one of those platformer games with lots of little details around the levels. Bosses were difficult to beat (nothing save states can't solve). And so I'm very happy to be dedicated for this award of the month.

MAME32 Plus! 0.111 seems to work okay. Simply press F4 when you're in the scene/level/place you want to map, then press Enter once to get the sprites and twice so you get the TMAP screen. Then you toggle through the sprite pieces/backgrounds with the square bracket keys. In some screens it takes a bit of searching the the larger resolutions. Sadly sprites are required to be pieced together, which I find far more complicated than simply taking every screenshot with F12, but you can get direct rips of fonts in the spritesheet. This technique does not work for every game such as Data East's and SNK's arcade games. The mapping is more in the roms than the emulators. Mind you I haven't tried any other arcade emulator.

With the completion of Ax Battler, the Golden Axe Quest chapter is finished. Three chapters so far are finished.
