Interestingly, you both use powerful tools.

Everything is perfect for bonuses and secret rooms.

Just one more thing. The entrance to level 3 needs to be moved.

And for 7a, you could add horizontal travel towards the castle if you like

Hello G.E.R.,
thank you for your kind message.

Thanks to you, I was able to discover one or two secrets I did not know in the game !  :)

I would happily give you the complementary pieces of map I made (framed in yellow), but I'm not on my favorite computer and I've used different tools (is this why I'm getting a color that's a little different from that of your maps?).
Thank you for your confidence with psd files but I will not have the tools to use them correctly right now.
Everything I've posted here has been done with paint. ^^

All bonuses have been precisely placed, and I've added pointers to hidden areas.
I hope it will help you to update the maps as you wish.
I'm glad I could give you this info.

Hello !  ;)
I had the good surprise to discover maps for Alisia Dragoon.
Thank very much for that, G.E.R.

I think it could be very interesting to add all the secret areas and bonuses.
For example, there are lot of them in the first temple. For now, the area remains blank on the map.

Thank you again for publishing theses maps !  :)

I decided to make mini-maps for all the game using G.E.R.'s maps! :-)
(except for the yellow boxes, which are additions of my own to indicate missing secret passages)

It is very simple :
  • light pink circle is a bonus already on the maps
  • yellow circle is a bonus that could be added on the maps
You have to walk right next to the hidden bonuses for them to appear.

Stage 1 Temple

Stage 2 Swamp

Stage 3 Zeppelin

Stage 4 Mountain

Stage 5 Caves

Stage 6 Spaceship

Stage 7 Palace

Rank List
It is displayed at the end of the game.  The columns show what you've used most often (Alisia Thunder = left column or companion power = right column).

source :

While playing to check the secrets, the game gave me the rank « Thunder Unicorn » Thunder Pawa ! That was nice ! ;)

While I was doing the tests, I used two codes of invicibility for Alisia (the first one) and her companions (the second one), if anyone is interested :
0013FA:4E75 and 0010CA:6002

Thank you LoveMusician:)

It seems however ScHlAuChi and George S were on their way to finish the maps a few months after this post. ^^

We can see their wonderfull work here from this week ! ^^

Edit : ScHlAuCh makes the maps for Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection ! ^^

Hello everyone !  :)

Today, I discovered an interesting feature to make maps in 4 Wonder Boy games in a compilation named Wonder Boy Anniversary Digital Edition for Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 4:
  • Wonder Boy
  • Wonder Boy in Monster Land
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World
  • Wonder Boy Asha in Monster World
An official video shows how it works and you can zoom on the maps that are perfect snapshots of the game:

screen from the video here :

It is a very fast way to make maps for Asha in Monster World since there is nothing for this game today;)

We still have to be sure the feature is available for this game because the video shows it only for Wonder boy in Monster World...
If someone can confirm the map feature is available for Asha in Monster World, it would be great !  8)

Maybe we can already run it on a Wii emulator after purchasing the game... Anyway, sooner or later, it may be a great way to make maps for this game !  ;)

Hello to all of you,  :)
I just saw the subject.

I see that everyone had specific moments for work or health with more or less ease. I am happy to see that difficult moments are behind for some of you.

I am leaving an intense and wonderful experience on vgmaps. I was delighted to make maps. It was even a number ONE priority to make a lot of them and quickly. All the games that were important to me and with a missing status on vgmaps, I made them, it was possible to reach that dream, it's wonderful!  8)

2022 is starting very well. I am experiencing a superb physical rejuvenation and very old emotional and nostalgic attachments have disappeared from my life with lightness a short time ago.

On the vgmaps side, the map on Darkmere put forward by Jon as " map of the month ", gave me the desire to discover in depth the Amiga world and it was an excellent moment !

I wish you all the best in your lives. May you be filled with grace in each present moment.

Hello Jon!
Thank you for the video.  :)

Pocky & Rocky 2 on Snes has an even closer scene to the movie, for the resemblance of the dragon's body.

Our Japanese and Chinese friends use them a lot, it's in their culture.
Some dragons are evil while others are extremely benevolent or wise...

I like this movie clip close to the Mana atmosphere.
It's a nice find and I thank you very much for sharing it.  :)

Map Gab / Shantae maps on Game Boy Color
« on: February 25, 2021, 02:34:24 pm »
Hello everyone! ^^
This week, ***ALL*** maps of Shantae are now online!

I would like to thank all the people who have supported me with these maps and especially those who have produced wonderful tools and resources to do so:
I would also like to thank Shantae Fandom who:
  • gave me the idea to make cartoon bubble to explain how to get secret items.
  • made me discover a great overworld map that I used to display all the names of the levels
Discover the overworld map here:

And here is one of the maps.

click here for all the maps:

Shantae is the last of a small list that was particularly close to my heart.
It was great to relive a different experience on a whole set of old games I made on cartridge so long ago, this time discovering all the secrets, tricks and complete views thanks to the product maps.

Enjoy! Have fun! ^^  :)

I didn't understand that these remarks were about a debug mode placement inaccuracy.

In this mode, there is also a lot of graphic garbage that the developers did not take the time to remove because it is invisible to the players.

If the wrong room location is respected, all graphic garbage should also be kept. The background is not black everywhere. It's an assembly of nonsense tiles everywhere.

In fact, it would never have occurred to me to make a misalignment, because it's the opposite of developer intent and gaming experience. We could even say that if players were to experience the game in debug mode, they would consider it broken and not finished.

I didn't take into account the debug mode at all.
At least I understand what you mean now! ^^
It had nothing to do with whether to attack or not. It's irrelevant in my mind, I can see that it's absent from the question, as a matter of course.

What made me tired was trying to compare with Symphony of the Night while I don't know the details for this game.
Not understanding what is said to me tired me a little, but with these clarifications, everything is clear. ^^  ;)

It is possible that I open a new topic on the forum to present the arrival of the maps, which can give additional visibility from the search engines.

Hello TerraEsperZ,  ;)
Congratulations for noticing a few details but the description is in great need of completion.
Here are all the details.

Labyrinths and modified rooms

labyrinth 1: 0/25 modified
labyrinth 2: 1/20 modified (1 tube on 1% height)
labyrinth 3: 3/20 modified (2 long tubes on 1% height + the small end of a room on 2% of its surface)
labyrinth 4: 4/23 modified (3 long tubes on 1% height + a small piece of room on 2% of its surface)
labyrinth 5: 0/13 modified

The remarkable work of the developers

From the game developers' point of view, it's obvious that they wanted alignment everywhere, and I'm impressed that they were so successful in doing so because in 2002, these details didn't allow to check that easily with computer tools.

Other games in comparison like Symphony of the Night or Equinox

Be careful to compare what is comparable.
I don't know the details for Symphony of the Night.
For Equinox, I chose to add arrows because of giant holes between some rooms.

In the case of Shantae, the work of the developers is almost perfect. I was tempted to add arrows but it was ridiculous because the level differences were as rare as they were tiny.

That's why I don't understand why you say:
« I too was frustrated by the way connected labyrinth doors would sometimes be completely off vertically. »
This may apply to other Metroidvania but Shantae is not concerned.

What a strange word...
We all wish to restore qualities of fidelity and authenticity from the gaming experience.

What is authenticity?

If you have made the complete maps of Shantae's overworld, you must have noticed that there are some bugs in the backgrounds with some big black squares and graphic bugs. I fixed that and is it cheating ?
Anyway, making maps is cheating because the player is never given the opportunity to experience height on the levels, it's a decoy.
The visual presentation with a screen rotation that you have done in some games does not correspond to the real experience of the player but is it cheating ?

More and more details not mentioned... Cities

The upper part of the cities is double in size compared to the lower part with its interior rooms.
You didn't mention that and yet, it's just huge! ^^

More and more details not mentioned... Items

It is impossible to display more than 6 items on the screen of a store and yet there are 10 on the same page in Water Town . You will never be able to display that in the game.

More and more details not mentioned... Shantae's house

There are 2 to 3 clouds above Shantae's house in the very first level, but it would have been weird to add them (it would have created a "chimney effect" with an absence of sky on the whole horizontality of the level (with an extra sky only above our heroine's house).

More and more details not mentioned... Fireflies by day

They appear only at night.
I put an icon with a moon and it's a form of cheating from a purist point of view.

More and more details not mentioned... Enemies missing

It's not accurate, it's inconsistent with the player's real experience...
But it's wanted by me because the main thing is to present the secrets of the game and it would have made things a lot heavier. Moreover, I would have found it aesthetically much less attractive.

In Quackshot, I put the enemies because they are rare and give a real artistic sense, otherwise it would seem empty. It's a matter of choice according to each game.
That's why, again, you can't compare things with Symphony of the Night, it's not reasonable.

This is a dedication of what you won't like, especially for you! ^^

Finally, I may understand better why I prefer when others make maps:
I find them all beautiful, made with the heart and saving me many hours of work. ^^
At least, while making the maps for the games I like and that were missing on vgmaps, I had a lot of fun and learned some nice things from a technical point of view.

Thank you to everyone who made maps.
We are all amazing to go on this crazy adventure! ^^
I am 100% satisfied with the result for Shantae (otherwise it would be easy for me to make some modifications to misalign the verticality in some rare cases).

I could almost make philosophy about what perfectionism is...
Is it restoring bugs in the game?
Is it displaying every single pixel, even if it's not right on the screen?

What's certain for me is that I try to do as simple as possible (in every sense of the word) to get to the essentials so that it's as visually understandable and accessible as possible with a desire of  giving an artistic sense to it! ^^
