Maps In Progress / RE: Tales of Phantasia(SNES)
« on: July 03, 2009, 05:12:48 pm »
I know that puzzle.  There are 2 exits to the room but you don't notice the other one because on your way there it's a locked door.  You assume it will still be locked so you don't try it but the truth is it's a one way door that is never locked from behind.  You're supposed to walk over the switch closing the left exit, leave the room through the one way door, go back in through the first door and hit the switch again to open the left exit.  First time I spent forever looking for a non-existent key for the one way door.  If it still doesn't work then you do have save eater on your hands.

I used to lose progress that way.  Saving normally then forgetting and losing it all by loading a save state.

Interesting.  So while your mapping your head is still in the game.  With me it's usually the opposite; once I start mapping it's not a game anymore, it's something to be taken apart.  Also I polish as I go.  I capture all a room's elements and start assembly right then and there.  I'm always afraid if I wait I'll leave something out.

As for tricky maps I've got tricky moves.  When a game just won't give up something It's off to BGMapper or Cheat Engine.

I don't really have a problem going back to maps and changing them, but I rarely do it because my changes usually require a whole new map and that's a lot of work.

I'm doing this one too and after looking at your stuff I think it's time for a precedent change.  I'm moving the space between rooms down to just one pixel.  I'm on the Valhalla planes now and at 67 rooms with cloud shadows it's a royal pain.

About half done now.  Not a hard game to map but the layout is frustrating as far as where to place each room.  I'm attempting to set it up in a descending floor - right to left style but some floors are funny shapes so we'll see.

I was actually going to take a shot at mapping the final dungeon in Wild Arms but never got on it.  I'll just pick that project back up.

Need a bug check:

I know I'm missing the giant, the volcano, and the swamp but I may have overlooked something else.  I was going to make 2 world maps; 1 with everything as it is from the start of the game and another with all the changes made throughout the game.

Or you could just use a code to freeze the water.

Here and at my site.  I'm doing both world and area maps but this might take a while since bgmapper gives me nothing with this game.  I've also got other projects I'm working on.  The initial world map will be an untouched one so no flying ruin, no erupted volcano.  I'll probably add those features in a later version.  I still have to make a code that controls daylight, and on that note all towns will be mapped at full daylight except for Bleak of course.

What a coincidence I've already started this project.

Map Requests / RE: SimCity (Super NES)
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:09:06 pm »
So your original Sim City request was for the 2000 blank city maps?  You really want 2000 maps of nothing?

It's not like it can't be done.  It's not even very difficult, in fact you could call it level 1 difficulty mapping.  It's just a lot of work, a mountain of work.  At the 3 days it took me to make 8... *does calculation* more then 2 years!  It would take me more then 2 years to map them all.  I think 2 years of mapping empty fields might just drive me insane.

I wonder how many games were ever made on that kind of engine.  That is of course assuming they stopped.
