Map Requests / Sega Megadrive (Genesis)/Sega CD Game Atlas
« on: June 27, 2013, 03:41:39 pm »
Following the classics of the previous Master System / Game Gear Game Atlas, I have compiled their successors that act as the counterparts for Nintendo Classics. Maps In Progress / Exile
« on: August 13, 2011, 08:49:05 am »
Spiderweb Software's collection of RPG games are fascinating. I am working the game Exile, which is a predecessor of the Avernum series and soon to be remade yet again. Exile used to have different graphics, which in my opinion was more colourful and better looking than the rusty colour scheme used in the latest versions.

I'll be sending a list of towns and dungeons. The list will be in alphabetical order of course. To position the enemies in their original positions I have used both the spells Magic Map and Detect Life. In addition I'm indicating the statues that talk and the items that are found in crates, bookshelves and barrels. Wish me luck on that project.

Maps In Progress / Quackshot
« on: May 14, 2011, 12:01:51 pm »
I just wondered Darkwolf, have you abandoned this project? I noticed that your map of Duckburg is only one third of the Duckburg Level. The Mexico Stage is divided into three parts and the Transylvania Level I have worked on is divided into six parts. Would you like to resume and complete Duckburg and we can finish the map collection of the game together? Once every part of each level is finished, I think it would be a good idea to unite the parts together to form level maps. If you interested in this collaboration, I look forward to it. I'm not sure about you murphy341, but you can also collaborate if you want.

Map Gab / C&C Maps
« on: March 16, 2011, 02:37:26 am »
While I was admiring the large collection of Command and Conquer maps (which almost completes the First Decade set with the exception of Generals and its expansion pack Zero Hour) I noticed that in C&C Tiberian Dawn, the GDI Mission 3 map of Latvia is missing.
Some of the missions don't have country names with them. SCG05WA and SCG05WB ought to labelled Germany. SCB07EA ought to be labelled Gabon. Some of the missions in C&C Red Alert 1 don't have mission names. The following are: SCG06EA, SCG06EB, SCG08EA, SCG08EB, SCG09EA, SCG09EB, SCG11EA, SCG11EB, SCU02EA, SCU02EB, SCU08EA, SCU08EB, SCU11EA, SCU11EB, SCU12EA, SCU13EA and SCU13EB. Hope my observation and information can help keep the map collection up to date.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Unusual layer toggling
« on: February 09, 2011, 06:42:35 am »
I have come across a freeware horizontal-scrolling shooter by the name "Kaeon" by Tran. This game has a layer toggling feature I thought I would never see in any PC DOS game. The purpose of this layer toggling was to help the game run faster on older and slower computers. But if anyone is good with programming, that game and its code may come in handy for manipulating layers of other games, or so I've heard.

Maps In Progress / Jagged Alliance
« on: December 04, 2010, 05:54:51 am »
Now here's some overlooked high quality strategy/RPG game I am working on. There are 60 sectors to be done. I'll be indicating the hidden supply caches, traps and objects lying around and mapping out the interior of buildings. Enemies will not be indicated because they are randomly positioned and vary in number through difficulty levels. Also the mercenaries and guards won't be shown since they can be varied entirely by the player's choice. The toughest thing to get right in the maps are the rippling water positions. I should like a little help from the strategy mapping specialist LDK to arrange the water once the maps arrive and if I've missed anything on each sector point it out.

Gaming / "Eagle Eyes Mysteries in London" (Help Wanted)
« on: September 22, 2010, 10:15:45 am »
In the game mystery part "Case of the Foiled Foxhunt" there is a place I am pretty much stuck at a dead end. At the Victoria Station you've got to enter the number of a train platform in order to travel to Buckfastleigh in Dartmoor. Although the train schedule is based on realism, sadly since this game was made in 1994 and over a decade has passed, my research on various London stations was no use, definitely train schedule details from these days have been superseded with newer ones invalid to the content of the game. No FAQs or reviews sites have a clue what the platform number is. Any of you MS-DOS game players up to the task of finding out what the number maybe? Find that number in any way you can. Any effort is appreciated.

Map Gab / Catacomb Trilogy
« on: September 04, 2010, 11:37:44 pm »
I have extracted all the in-game maps from the instructions and hints manuals of the games themselves. However there are a couple of things that require fixing:

1. In Catacomb Abyss there are three levels accessible only by a warp cheat that do not have their own in-game map and would definitely require a rough recreation. Also I need a matching 'J' letter of the map font to finish the penultimate map label.

2. In Catacomb Apocalypse there are two levels, which I have no idea what their title is called and once again only accessible by warp cheat.

If anyone can provide me with rough maps (ideally grided), then I can fully finish those maps.

Map Requests / Super Mario's Wacky Worlds
« on: September 04, 2010, 09:48:52 am »
The existence of this game is mysterious and unheard of to me. I thought I'd seen everything of Super Mario from NES to Nintendo Wii, but this really takes the cake. Fancy a Mario game on Philips CD-i. I researched on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario%27s_Wacky_Worlds that it was cancelled in post-production. Judging by the video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dapyW4rwYNc&feature=related I'd say this game is playable enough. If this game is worth doing, this will fill in a gap in the grand Mario maps collection.

Maps In Progress / Pocky & Rocky 2
« on: August 03, 2010, 02:39:48 pm »
"Pocky & Rocky 2" seems like a decent game to map and I've already begun it. There are more stages in this one than the prequel.

VGMaps Social Board / Favourite C&C music tracks
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:56:17 pm »
If your familiar with and like playing the Command and Conquer franchise, then perhaps you find the music tracks cool too. I have a selected favourite of tracks from the different games:

1. Act on Instinct (C&C Tiberian Dawn) - I'd play this in any fancy car.
2. Just Do It! (C&C Tiberian Dawn) - Sounds just like the music I'd play at any beach.
3. Warfare (C&C Tiberian Dawn) - Reminds me of a quad bike and motor bike cross country rally race.
4. Hell March (C&C Red Alert) - Gives a small X-men style impression.
5. Grinder (C&C Red Alert 2) - Makes me imagine the Rescue Rangers Chip and Dale with rampaging style.

I have preference to instrumentals in game music but with booming and radio transmission voices in "Grinder" and lyrics in "Just Do It!" are exceptionally good to me. Do you guys have any favourite C&C tracks of your own?

VGMaps Social Board / My Own Music Video
« on: January 29, 2010, 08:24:16 am »
Ever made your own music video? 2 Months ago I made my first and only music video. I call it "Music Video Starring Pepe and Penelope" with Bing Crosby's song "Straight down the Middle".  :)

You can find the music video on YouTube and let me know what you think.

« on: September 26, 2009, 01:04:41 am »
For some time, I have been scanning through some of Sega's classic titles and trying to compose a good Atlas equivelent to the Nintendo Recreation Atlas previously worked on. The titles chosen are meant to be parallel to that of Nintendo titles like Sonic as opposed to Mario, Shinobi as opposed to Ninja Gaiden and so on. There are a total of 35 game titles. Map Gab / Eye of the beholder
« on: August 08, 2009, 02:20:14 am »
As you may have noticed I have finished the mapset of SNES Eye of the Beholder. Yet somehow I just do not find my work complete enough for certain reasons:

1. Was each square 25 X 25 a good scale or would a bigger scale be easier to understand?

2. While most of the icons make sense, some like the Leech icon (Level 1), and the Xorn Icon (Level 11) I am not proud of, because they don't make a proer resemblence to the monster.

3. The floor terrain is okay for the first three levels and the last level, but the others are really not that good, due to the fact is couldn't really design fitting scaled floor tiles.

4. I very uncertain about the accuracy of my information. While I've been able to compile a lot of secrets and positions in guides and walkthroughs, I don't know if it applies to other versions besides the SNES version.

5. I have no idea how understandable, helpful and useful people would find those maps, its quite immeasurable from where I stand.

My intentions are that the SNES mapset be scrapped once I replace them with PC version maps. What is more I think extracting the Sega CD maps was a waste of time, being vague maps and its definitely not fit to remain. Before I begin remakes for the PC version I'd like some suggestions on square scale and how icons, floor textures and indications can be improved.

Maps In Progress / Earth 2140
« on: July 05, 2009, 05:34:03 am »
One of the few strategy games waiting for its queue in the mapping line. Thanks to the cheats I procured, I can go throughly smoothly. Currently I have finished the UCS missions in New Mexico and proceeding to United Kingdom. Each map is either 1 or 2 MB big while an a larger map can go up to 6 MB.

In both UCS and ED, the mission take place different in New Mexico, United Kingdom, Scandanavia, North Africa and Central Europe. If I had the full CD version of Earth 2140, I could do the Mission Pack 1 and Mission Pack 2 maps in addition.
